How to Store Wet Dog and Cat Food

If you’re new to buying wet pet food, or need a quick refresh, here are 3 steps to keep your next can of Healthy Shores wet pet food fresh and delicious!

Store wet food in a cool, dry location

Exposing wet food in too much heat or humidity can negatively impact the food. Wet should be stored in a cool dark place, like a cupboard or a pantry before it is opened. Note: It is ok to store the food in the fridge or freezer and maintain the same quality.

Refrigerate open wet food

If you haven’t used the entire can of food, make sure to store it in an airtight container. You can also use a plastic container with an airtight lid, or a plastic bag, like a zip lock. Do not leave the food exposed to air temperate for an extended period of time. Note: Refrigerated wet food can be left in the freezer in an airtight container until the expiration date

Discard open food after 4 hours

Wet food cannot be left out unrefrigerated for more than 4 hours. If you forget to pack up the leftovers, or if your pet wasn’t hungry during this meal time, the leftovers need to be discarded.

Refrigerated wet food can be kept in an airtight container for up to 5 days after opening.
